Ready to unlock your mobile phones
Friday, September 3rd, 2010Heard the good news that unlocked cell phones have received something of a significant nod from the American judiciary lately, thanks to a judgment that permits the unlocking of our own mobile phone totally legal. Cell service providers in general lock the telephones they provide their subscribers so that those telephones will exclusively work using the provider’s network. The upshot of it all is that mobile phones are automatically made unusable whenever consumers switch carriers, and so a cottage industry has developed around those customers who really want to take their handsets with them to a different carrier. And right now the courts just gave this practice its blessings, but with one fatal caveat – while unlocking mobile handsets is allowed, the means essential to achieve it is not!
